Based in a charming Hertfordshire village, Gary and Lesley are lucky enough to enjoy open countryside views – right from their garden!
Before their bridge journey began, they ran a successful children’s toy manufacturing company. It wasn’t until their children grew up that Gary returned to bridge, having learned the game at university at 19. After selling their business, Gary began directing in local clubs and hosting bridge holidays aboard cruise ships. Lesley joined him on these adventures and soon caught the bridge bug herself!
Now with over 40 years’ experience playing bridge (and 15 for Lesley), the couple have hosted many holidays both in the UK and abroad. One of their favourite destinations is the Royal Kenz Hotel in Tunisia, and they’d love to visit the Cape Verde Islands one day.
When they’re not at the bridge table, they enjoy walking, eating, and building Lego models. But it’s hosting bridge events that truly brings them joy – they love meeting new people!
Gary is a Senior EBU Panel Director and Chief Tournament Director for Hertfordshire. He’s also a trainer for EBED, having helped over 200 players gain the skills to direct bridge in their own clubs. Lesley is the team’s social expert, always on hand to support solo travellers, keep the bridge room beautifully prepared, and handle all scoring and hand preparation. Together, they make a fantastic team and are committed to making sure every guest enjoys a wonderful bridge holiday.
Top Bridge Tip from Gary and Lesley: As declarer, when the opening lead is made – stop! Count your quick winners, work out how you are going to make extra tricks and make a plan. Do it at trick one, trick two may be too late!
