Ann always hated playing card games but reluctantly agreed to take bridge lessons, persuaded by her husband over 30 years ago when they first took a job contract abroad. The idea was to be able to join in with the local social life. During her 15 years living abroad, Ann played sporadically, but since returning to the UK and joining her local bridge club, she has been completely hooked and now plays 3 or 4 times a week. Ann finds that bridge is a great pastime to challenge those little grey cells, as well as being the perfect opportunity to spend time with friends and make new ones.
Ann’s other major hobby is walking, and living close to the Peak District and in the beautiful Leicestershire countryside gives her ideal opportunities. Her other interests include gardening, reading, learning French and volunteering for the National Trust. Spending time with family and friends and helping out with grandchildren also rates high on the list.
Ann is very active in her local bridge club, having held positions of Chair and Membership Secretary, as well as being a club director and helping with beginners and supervised play sessions.

Top Bridge Tip from Ann: Remember we were all learners once, and as we need to encourage new players into the game (Covid took a big toll on bridge club memberships) please be kind to those less experienced than yourself. Being kind and courteous to everyone at the bridge table doesn’t cost anything and makes for a much more pleasant atmosphere for all.
