Holiday Overview
Based in Alpbach, one of Austria's most picturesque alpine villages, this incredible holiday combines sightseeing, rail journeys and cruises with a relaxed programme of bridge. Alpbach is famed for its traditional wooden chalets adorned with colourful flowers and is set amid rolling meadows and dramatic mountain scenery in the heart of Tyrol. Here, you'll find a peaceful atmosphere, rich local traditions, and warm Austrian hospitality – the perfect setting for bridge. We stay at the welcoming 4-star Hotel Alphof, offering excellent facilities including a cosy bar with an open fireplace, a wellness area with indoor pool, panoramic roof terrace, sauna and steam rooms, and tranquil relaxation lounges.
During your week-long stay, three carefully chosen excursions are included: a scenic journey on the Zillertal Railway with time in charming Mayrhofen and Rattenberg, a ride on the Achensee Cog Railway followed by a lunch cruise on Lake Achensee, and a visit to Innsbruck, the Tyrolean capital, featuring a guided tour and free time to explore. Your Bridge Programme
Play & Explore holidays are suited to intermediate players who wish to learn new skills, and regular players looking for a relaxed holiday with bridge.
Our bridge programmes will vary according to the length of your break, and, in addition to playing bridge, our host will aim to include interactive bridge seminars.
Your duplicate bridge will be available every evening between 7:30pm and 10:30pm. We endeavour to vary these evening sessions, balancing between teams and pairs and playing relaxed and friendly bridge.
Bridge will also be offered some afternoons between 2:30pm and 4:45pm. These sessions are normally given over to open pairs/teams.
Masterpoints are awarded on evening sessions, and on day sessions with over 5 tables.
During your bridge holiday, nothing is obligatory, and you can play in as many or as few bridge sessions as you wish. We don’t forget you are on holiday and our bridge programmes also allow time to relax, giving the opportunity for you to explore the surrounding area.
With our flight-inclusive package, today you will board your flight from London Heathrow to Munich. From here, you will be transferred to the 4-star Hotel Alphof in the alpine village of Alpbach.
If you have booked our join direct package, meet us at Munich Airport and transfer to the hotel.
This evening, we enjoy a welcome drink before dinner. Afterwards, there's a welcome meeting, led by our hosts. Any single travellers will have the opportunity to find a partner for the bridge room. We enjoy welcome pairs this evening.

Zillertal Railway, Mayrhofen and Rattenberg (Day 2)
After breakfast, we travel by coach to Strass and board the Zillertal Railway (or Zillertalbahn), enjoying a scenic return journey through stunning alpine landscapes to Mayrhofen. On arrival, enjoy free time to explore the town and have lunch at your leisure. In the afternoon, we take the train back to Strass and from here, continue by coach to Rattenberg, Austria’s smallest town, famed for its medieval architecture and glassmaking tradition. Stroll through the charming streets before returning to Alpbach for dinner.
Innsbruck (Day 4)
After breakfast at the hotel, we depart by coach for a visit to Innsbruck, the capital of the Tyrol. We enjoy a guided city tour, taking in highlights such as the Basilica and Olympic ski jump, before heading to the historic Old Town, where you can admire the golden roof. Afterwards, enjoy free time to explore the city independently. You may choose to shop or have lunch at your leisure, before we return to Alpbach later in the day.
Achensee Cog Railway and Lake Achensee Cruise with Lunch (Day 6)
Today’s excursion begins with a coach transfer to Jenbach, where you will board the historic Achensee Cog Railway for a scenic journey to Seespitz. From here, we enjoy a relaxing cruise on Lake Achensee, often referred to as the “Tyrolean Sea.” During the cruise, enjoy a delightful two-course lunch while taking in the stunning panoramic mountain views. After this memorable experience, there’s time to take a stroll through the charming lakeside village of Pertisau, before returning to Alpbach.
