Enjoy seven nights of varied bridge at the 4-star Vila Galé Tavira, perfectly located in the heart of this charming coastal town. With bridge sessions and plenty of time to relax, you’ll soak up the pleasant Portuguese climate.
Tavira is steeped in history and Algarvian charm, with cobbled streets, whitewashed buildings, colourful tiles and distinctive rooftops reflecting its Moorish heritage. Stroll across the Roman bridge spanning the Gilão River or climb to Castelo de Tavira for spectacular views of the coastline and sandbar islands. The town boasts over 20 churches, a lively food and craft market, boutiques, and easy access to Ilha de Tavira – a tropical island with seven kilometres of golden sand.
Our elegant hotel, built in traditional Portuguese style, offers indoor and outdoor pools, a spa, and is just 100 metres from shops, tapas bars and restaurants. The stunning Ria Formosa Natural Park is nearby, and golfers will find Quinta da Ria and Quinta da Cima courses only 11 km away, with public transport right outside for exploring the Algarve.

Our bridge programmes will vary according to the length of your break, and, in addition to playing bridge, we try to include interesting bridge seminars, hosted by your EBU-qualified director.
Your duplicate bridge will be available every evening between 7:30pm and 10:30pm. We endeavour to vary these evening sessions, balancing between teams and pairs and featuring at least one Swiss event during a two-week break.
Bridge will also be offered some afternoons between 2:30pm and 4:45pm. These sessions are normally given over to open pairs/teams.
Masterpoints are awarded on evening bridge sessions, and on day sessions with over 5 tables.
During your bridge holiday, nothing is obligatory, and you can play in as many or as few bridge sessions as you wish. We don’t forget you are on holiday and our bridge programmes also allow time to relax, giving the opportunity for you to explore the surrounding area.
When you’re not in the bridge room, take time to relax and enjoy the hotel’s spa facilities. If you’re feeling more adventurous, why not visit the historic town of Silves with its impressive Moorish castle? Discover Portugal’s largest natural coral reef at Armação de Pêra Bay or explore the fascinating underwater navy ships museum in Portimão. Enjoy a scenic walk to the Salgados and other nearby nature reserves, savour the original and famous Chicken Piri Piri at Gula, or indulge in some retail therapy in Faro – the vibrant capital of the Algarve!

The Vila Galé Tavira is beautifully located in the historic Moorish town of Tavira, along the banks of the Ria Formosa. Built in 2002, this popular hotel offers 268 rooms across three floors, all centred around its large outdoor pool and landscaped gardens. The elegant rooms feature dark wooden furniture, tiled floors, large windows and balconies, while the hotel’s décor reflects authentic Portuguese charm.
